While most of what we do at our company involves higher level executive or management positions, we do on occassion work with entry level opportunities. Usually, since our clients are paying us, these opportunities are often far better than the typical entry level positions offered to candidates with less experience. We are currently working on two entry level positions right now--one for a Quality Engineer and one for a Purchasing Manager, both with salaries in the 40ks. If you'd like more information, please visit our website at www.stcsearch.com.
What baffles me is that some college career centers don't allow recruiters access to their new grads. Just the other day we wanted to recruit students from North Central College in Naperville, IL, and they refused to allow us access to student resumes because we are a recruiting firm. While this borders on discrimination (considering their only basis for not allowing us access is what we do), it also seems unfair that these students are being denied access to the best opportunities out there, and losing out to their new grad competitors at other area schools. I have no idea what their reasoning is for not allowing us to recruit their students (after all, isn't that the point of a career center?) but we will take our recruiting efforts elsewhere! Students interested in finding out more about entry level opportunities with our clients should visit our website at www.stcsearch.com or www.mrinetwork.com.
If you'd like to complain about North Central's "No recruiters" policy, contact Jeffrey Denard, Director of Career Development at jddenard@noctrl.edu.

Fatal Resume Mistakes
Misspelled words are bad enough, but Careerbuilder has put together a list of resume mistakes that would make any hiring authority laugh out loud...then run straight to the trash can! Here are a few of the wackiest things job seekers have done with their resumes:
1. Attached a letter from her mother
2. Used pale blue teddy bear paper
3. Explained a 3 month gap in employment by saying he was getting over the death of his cat
For the complete list (well worth taking a break to read) click here.
Enjoy!

First Street News
The word on the street is that the exterior work on Milestone Row should be completed in about 3 weeks... This is good news, since our interior build out should begin shortly thereafter. Looks like we may be in for a June move after all!

How to Reach Generation Y (and keep them happy)
This new generation is tech savvy, meaning their words travel FAST! Blogs, IM, email, MySpace...The list of outlets goes on and on. How do you make sure they're not saying anything bad about you? And telling all their friends? And scaring away potential clients or candidates from your organization?
If they post a message on their blog about how their experience with your company (or you, for that matter), it could reach hundreds of people within their network and influence not just their thoughts about you personally, but their willingness to do business with you. An article by John Wilson on ere.net examines this idea and offers suggestions for keeping the peace with these new powerhouses.

DEMOLITION!
The Evolution of Flex Time
I read this great article on yahoo today about Best Buy's new business strategy- a workplace where workers don't really work. They've unveiled a new corporate environment, nicknamed "ROWE", which stands for "Results Only Work Environment". This idea rewards the work that gets done, not the hours employees put in. It's similar to flex time, but much more interesting. Employees can come in at 2 in the afternoon, leave at 3 if they want, but they are expected to work from home, or their fishing boat or wherever they go, in order to keep their productivity up. The hours "in office" are not tracked or important--as long as the work gets done. It's an interesting idea, and seems very appropriate to today's workers. Check out the article here.

Famous Twice in One Week!
Well, I woke up on my birthday (5 days ago) and found an article about me in the newspaper! Not a bad way to start out the day. Here is the full story, about our 20th anniversary and our big move to First Street in the Kane County Chronicle....
Here's another article about us (though we aren't actually mentioned) on the FRONT PAGE of today's paper. What a great picture of our little house biting the dust! We missed it by about half an hour or so. It went down very quickly--by the time we got there it was a pile of blue rubble. Check out the full story at the Kane County Chronicle website.

Best Jobs!
We always knew we liked our job, but here's an article that would make anyone envious! Money magazine has ranked Executive Recruiting as the number one job for parents returning to the workforce. Our median pay ($77k), great future (30% job growth predicted for the next 10 years) and family friendly flexibility make us their top choice!
If you're looking for a new career, we're always looking for great talent to add to our team, so feel free to go to our website and submit your resume.

Hiring for Potential
I thought this article about hiring for potential versus hiring for skill was very interesting, especially in today's candidate driven market. What do you think about this idea? It seems to be a newer trend, and a great way to mold your future employee into your company.
